President Asif Ali Zardari on the advice of Prime Minister has approved conferment of 'Hilal-i-Imtiaz' upon Ms Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy on Tuesday, the first Pakistani to win Oscar for her documentary Saving Face. Saving Face chronicles the lives of acid attack survivors, their arduous attempts to bring their assailants to justice, and follows a British-Pakistan plastic surgeon, Dr Jawad, who performs reconstructive surgeries on them.
Ms Sharmeen Chinoy, known for documentaries dealing with life in the Muslim world, has produced numerous films and has won a number of awards and honours including the Emmy Award. She became the first non-American to win the Livingston Award. The citation said that in recognition of her achievements in the filed of film making and her contribution to highlighting important social issues in Pakistan through her documentaries, exemplified by the recent award of an Oscar for the first time to a Pakistani national, the award of 'Hilal-i-Imtiaz' was being conferred upon her.-PR
